Nel Castello di Duino risiedevano una dama di nome Esterina da Portole e suo marito, un uomo possessivo e crudele, che torturava la moglie con la sua gelosia arrivando a gettarla in mare dalla sommità della scogliera. Il suo ricordo riecheggia ancora tra le scogliere.
The Duino Castle was once home to a lady named Esterina da Portole, and her husband, a possessive and cruel man who, consumed by jealousy, used to torment his wife, subjecting her to relentless violence. One day, in a fit of rage, he dragged Esterina by her hair, out of the castle, to the edge of the bluff, and threw her into the sea. Her presence can still be felt among the cliffs.
