A Trieste lo sguardo può spaziare lungo la superficie del mare fino all’orizzonte, ma basta girarsi per vedere, appena alle spalle della città, l’altopiano roccioso del Carso. Doline, grotte, sentieri scavati tra le pietre modellate dal vento e dalla pioggia e falesie che si gettano a strapiombo nelle acque del Mare Adriatico.
La leggenda narra che fu il diavolo in persona a riempire di pietre il Carso e racconta l’amore tra Bora, figlia del Dio dei venti, e l’eroe degli Argonauti Tergesteo.
In Trieste, one’s gaze can stretch across the surface of the sea to the horizon, and on the other side, just beyond the city, to the rocky plateau of the Carso. Caves; sinkholes; paths carved between the stones, shaped by wind and rain; and cliffs that plunge deeply into the waters of the Adriatic Sea are found here.
Legend has it that it was the Devil himself who filled the Carso with stones, and tells of the love story between Bora, daughter of the God of Winds, and Tergesteo, the hero of the Argonauts.
